We’ve all been at home a little more than we’re used to lately. Whether you’re working from home, or you’re confined to the indoors on the weekends, it can definitely be a challenge for all of us. We’ve put together some tips on ways you can keep your calm at home, from taking time for yourself, to doing some spring cleaning… in May.
Make your space as comfortable as possible
If you are confined to your home, make sure your space is as comfortable as possible. It is where you’re going to be spending most of your time after all!
Let the light in
We all know that a little bit of sunshine a day keeps the doctor away. But this becomes a little tricky while we’re indoors. A lot of Northern Beaches residents live in unit blocks, meaning they might not get as much natural light as a home. If this is the case for you, be sure to let in as much natural light as you can by opening your blinds, shutters or curtains. The right amount of sunlight can do wonders for your mood, keeping your mind calm and focused and your spirits elevated.
A clean home is a comfortable home
A cluttered home can lead to heightened stress and anxiety so ensuring all of your items are stored away properly and put back where they belong will help you stay in a calmer frame of mind. If your home is feeling a little messier than usual and you don’t know where to begin, start by cleaning up one section of the home each day. Now is the perfect time to get your ‘Marie Kondo’ on.
Set your temperature
For some, one of the best things about working from home means they no longer have to freeze in an office where the air conditioner is always set too cold! While you’re home, we recommend setting your controller to a comfortable 22-23 degrees.
Typically, an air conditioner on cooling will push out anywhere between 8-12 degrees Celsius and 35-45 degrees on heating. Your air conditioner continually pushes out these temperatures until your space has reached the temperature set on the controller. By keeping a set temperature, your unit won’t have to run as long, saving you power and money.

Stay productive
Keeping productive when there’s not much else to do will definitely help you keep your calm while you’re stuck at home. It’s a great time to get your home in order and do all of those things you’ve always wanted to do but could never quite find the time to get them done! Whether that’s cleaning the pantry out from top to bottom, or organising the kids clothing cupboards, write your list and get started today.
Take care of your air conditioning system
One item we always find gets forgotten in the home is the air conditioning system. Did you know the air conditioning filters should be cleaned every 3-6 months depending how often you use your unit? Dirty air conditioning filters not only result in your unit blocking up, but your air conditioner has to work a lot harder, putting strain on your unit and increasing your energy bills.
Cleaning the air conditioning filter is quite easy and something you can do yourself if you know what you’re doing. Alternatively, you can leave it to a qualified air conditioning technician.
While you’re tending to your air conditioner, remember to check on your outside unit to make sure it has proper ventilation. Be sure nothing is blocking it such as long grass or debris. Like a dirty filter, if you don’t have correct ventilation your air conditioner’s efficiency will be reduced and it will also need to work a lot hard, making it more susceptible to breakdown.
Book an air conditioning service in
Did you know your air conditioner should be serviced annually? Having an annual service keeps your air conditioner at optimal performance, running efficiently and safely for as long it should.
Now is the perfect time to book an air conditioning service in. Especially since it’s easier for you to be at home to let the air conditioning technician in. It’s also the perfect time due to the change in seasons. With a lot more people starting to use their units for heating, many are finding their units aren’t working as they should.
Beat the winter rush and book your air conditioning service today.
Take moments to relax
Most importantly, take moments to relax during this time at home. It may be a long time before we get to do this again. Find joy in the hobbies you like to do, (or never get time to do). Make a coffee, sit down and read a book or simply, just do nothing. If you have a front or back yard, spend time outdoors and enjoy the sunshine.
We can all use this time to do something therapeutic, keeping our minds calm and our homes happy.
