Have you ever been sitting at home with the air conditioner on, when you suddenly notice the room is freezing cold? So you turn the temperature up, only to find the room is warming again. You may even be constantly repeating this process, trying to get the temperature right in the room. There are a few tips and tricks we can share with you to ensure you set your air conditioner correctly for summer.
Setting your temperature
A lot of people think 18 degrees Celsius is a good temperature to set your controller to. Especially because they believe it will cool the room down a lot quicker. We actually recommend a comfortable 20-22 degrees Celsius.
It’s important to leave your air conditioner controller at one set temperature too, as this will effectively cool down your house or room. As well as reducing your energy consumption, keeping your electricity bill down. Having the controller set to one temperature will mean your unit won’t have to run for as long to cool down a space.
Turning your air conditioner on and off at certain times
When you know the day ahead is going to be a hot one, it’s a good idea to turn your air conditioner on in the morning. This allows the air conditioner to keep the home or rooms cool throughout the day, meaning you won’t have to turn your air conditioner on at maximum capacity during peak electricity times when you arrive home.
Take advantage of Wi-Fi Control
If you have a newer air conditioning unit, chances are you have Wi-Fi Control to operate your unit from your smartphone. Wi-Fi Control gives you the ability to turn your air conditioner on before you get home. As per the above point, this helps you avoid turning the air conditioner on at peak electricity times.
We recommend taking advantage of this feature during the summer months to cool your home efficiently and effectively.
Looking after your air conditioning unit
Now that you have learnt how to set your air conditioner correctly for summer, it’s important to mention some ‘housekeeping’ points. After all, the above tips won’t work as well if we don’t take care of our air conditioning units.
Clean the filters
Cleaning your air conditioner filters is imperative to keeping your air conditioner running at peak performance. If your air conditioner filters aren’t clean, the unit is going to be working a lot harder to cool the space, increasing your energy bill.
An air conditioner filter helps to keep the air cool and clean. Over time, dust, dirt and grime can build up on the filter, blocking it. You can clean the filter yourself if you know what you are doing and have the time. Alternatively, you can hire a qualified air conditioning technician to do the job.
The filters should be cleaned every 3-6 months, depending on how much your air conditioner gets used. Most people may only need to do this yearly.
Have regular services
Services on your air conditioning unit should be carried out annually. The preventative maintenance that's carried out during a service ensures you’ll get the longest life span possible from your air conditioner. A service keeps your air conditioner running efficiently and safely.
Organise a servicing schedule for your air conditioning system.
