Keep Your Air Conditioner At Peak Performance

The arrival of spring means we will soon be powering up our air conditioners, switching them over to cooling mode as the warm weather approaches. Ensuring you air conditioner is at peak performance will mean it’s running efficiently and you shouldn’t be surprised with any unexpected breakdowns. (The last thing you want on a 36 degree day!)

There are a few measures you can take to keep your air conditioner running well. By following our tips, you can keep your power bills down, and your air conditioner running all summer long.

Clean the filters

Your air conditioner will be working a lot harder if the filters are not clean. This puts strain on your unit and in turn increases your energy bills. The filter helps to keep the air cool and clean. Because of this, dust, dirt and grime can build up on the filter over time, causing it to block up.

The filter can easily be cleaned, and it is something you can do yourself if you have the time and know what you’re doing. Alternatively, you can hire the services of a qualified air conditioning technician.

Depending on how much you use your unit, the filters should be cleaned every 3-6 months. However, most people would only need to do this yearly.

Air conditioner not running as it should? Try these troubleshooting tips

Take advantage of your thermostat

A typical air conditioner on heating should push out anywhere between 35-45 degrees Celsius and 8-12 degrees Celsius on cooling. The air conditioner will continually push out these temperatures until your air conditioned space has reached the desired temperature on the controller.

If you set your air conditioning controller to a comfortable temperature, we recommend 22-23 degrees, your air conditioning unit won’t have to run as long and will save you on power and money.

Mitsubishi Electric Wi-Fi Control App

Wi-Fi control is the smart, new way to control your air conditioner. From the touch of a button on your smartphone, the Mitsubishi Electric Wi-Fi Control App controls everything from:

  • Turning off and on

  • Changing modes

  • Changing temperatures

  • Fan speeds

  • Opens and closes zoned areas in the house

So, why is this beneficial?

Being able to control your air conditioner from your smartphone means you can set the temperature before your arrive at home, allowing your unit to stay efficient and keep your energy costs down. Gone are the days of paying for energy you are not actually using it.

Alpine Air and Electrical recently saved the day for our happy customer, Oana:

This really saved me a two and a half hour drive as friends forgot to turn of the aircon at the holiday house. I reassured them it didn’t matter as Tim from Alpine had put the Wi-Fi on so I just turned the aircon off. So brilliant!!

Thankyou Alpine Air and Electrical you are brilliant!!

Proper ventilation

Ensure you have proper ventilation for your air conditioner. Like a dirty filter, improper ventilation can cause your air conditioner to work a lot harder and reduce efficiency of your unit. As a result of your unit working harder, it’s also more susceptible to breakdown.

To check your unit is ventilated, go outside and look around it. Remove anything that may be blocking it such as bushes, long grass or any debris.
